Day 1 :

Arusha – Momella Gate – Miriakamba Hut

After breakfast, transfer from Arusha to Arusha National Park (1-hour drive) and arrive at Momella Gate. Begin your trek accompanied by an armed ranger due to the presence of wildlife.

Hike:
Start hiking through open grasslands and wooded savannahs, passing giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and warthogs. The trail winds through lush montane forest, offering opportunities to spot colobus monkeys and birdlife. Arrive at Miriakamba Hut in the late afternoon, where you’ll rest and enjoy the scenic views of the surrounding landscape.

Miriakamba Hut (2,514 meters)

Day 2 :

Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut

Elevation: 2,514 meters (8,250 feet) to 3,570 meters (11,712 feet)
Walking Time: 3-5 hours
Distance: 8 km

Morning:
After breakfast, ascend from Miriakamba Hut through steep, dense forest and into the moorland zone. Along the way, enjoy stunning views of the caldera and Mount Meru’s summit.

Hike:
The hike is moderately challenging, passing through “Mgongo wa Tembo” (Elephant Ridge) with expansive views of Mount Meru’s cliffs and the Ash Cone. You’ll reach Saddle Hut by early afternoon, where you can rest and take an optional hike to Little Meru (3,820 meters) for acclimatization and breathtaking panoramic views of Kilimanjaro.

Overnight:
Saddle Hut (3,570 meters)

Day 3 :

Saddle Hut – Socialist Peak (Summit) – Miriakamba Hut

Elevation: 3,570 meters (11,712 feet) to 4,566 meters (14,980 feet), then descend to 2,514 meters
Walking Time: 10-12 hours
Distance: 15-18 km

Midnight (Summit Push):
Around midnight, start your ascent to the summit. The trail is steep and rugged, passing through rocky ridges and narrow paths.

Summit:
After 5-6 hours of trekking, reach Socialist Peak (4,566 meters) by sunrise. Enjoy the incredible views of Kilimanjaro, the Great Rift Valley, and the vast plains below. After a brief rest and celebration, begin your descent back to Saddle Hut for breakfast, and then continue descending to Miriakamba Hut.

Overnight:
Miriakamba Hut (2,514 meters)

Day 4 :

Miriakamba Hut – Momella Gate – Arusha

Elevation: 2,514 meters (8,250 feet) to 1,387 meters (4,550 feet)
Walking Time: 2-4 hours
Distance: 10 km

Morning:
After breakfast, descend through the lush montane forest back to Momella Gate. Keep an eye out for wildlife as you make your way down the trail, with the chance to spot more giraffes, elephants, and antelope along the way.

End of Trek:
At Momella Gate, you’ll receive your certificate for summiting Mount Meru before driving back to Arusha. Arrival in Arusha will be around mid-afternoon.
